My son traveling down a zip-line in the canopy of the Monte Verde Cloud Forest
Monte Verde Cloud Forest
Frequently, the most inaccessible places are the most spectacular and memorable. Monte Verde, Costa Rica is such a place. I was staying in Tabacon by the Arenal Volcano and wanted to try something different. Two boats, two jeeps, and one horse later I found what I was looking for. Monte Verde is a huge, unspoiled cloud forest in the middle of Costa Rica. To access the forest, I needed to first take a boat ride across the volcanic lake that sits at the base of the Arenal volcano.
Next, it's three hours by horseback through fields, rivers, and mountains.
After rising several thousand feet, we had arrived in the heart of the wilderness. We hired a jeep to take us about 10 miles to one of the best Canopy tours in the world, which is operated out of the forest: http://www.skytrek.com . This particular tour features the highest and longest cable zip line in the country.
